I am often asked by clients when booking celebrity entertainment to find them someone “popular” for their event to make it a success. I only wish it was that simple. The fact is that “popular” means different things to different people. This is obvious but before you just opt for the most popular celebrity you can afford for your event, you need to take into account your audience, including their age, tastes, and more. For example, lets assume you are planning a conference and your attendees are middle aged, 40’s and 50’s mostly, and they want to have dance music, you may want to consider Kool and the Gang, Hall and Oates, or even older acts such as The Four Tops or The Temptations. These acts are well known to people in that middle age bracket and the acts also have lots of hit songs attendees can dance to. The point is that whether you choose to book the entertainment yourself or work with an entertainment company, make sure you know your audience well as it makes choosing the correct celebrity act that much easier.
P.S. In case your curious, to book Hall and Oates runs between $150,000 to $175,000 and The Temptations are between $65,000 and $90,000. I would tell you the others fees but it’s best to leave a little mystery, don’t you think?
