Social media or web 2.0 as some call it is changing not only the internet and our culture, but also the events and meetings industry as well. Twitter is one of those social media tools that is all the rage right now. It is basically a micro blogging tool which allows you to write what it is you are doing right now. The post has to be under 140 characthers. This can be a great tool for people in our industry to use to help market their events and meetings. You can post your planning process, step by step, and slowly obtain followers, which means, people that are interested in what you are doing, and you can even follow other people. You can invite your followers to attend an event or conference or even ask a question. You may even want to try and get your past attendees on Twitter, so you can interact with them in real time and get better repeat attendance. Use your imagination. Best of all, the tool is totally free and you can invite your friends and colleagues too.
Go to Twitter, poke around, and set up an account. You may find it worth you time. By the way, there is not a rule as to how many times you need to post what you are doing. I usually post 3 times a day.
